In this study, when sorptive building materials with toluene removal performance are applied, the effect of improving indoor air quality and the amount of heating energy consumption resulting from the replacement of mechanical ventilation system was evaluated. The sorptive building materials with a toluene removal rate of 69.4% were selected and the predicted toluene concentration by indoor application area was confirmed to show that the removal effect increased with the increase of the toluene area. When sorptive wallpaper is applied to both the ceiling and the wall, the toluene concentration is 483.9 to 796.6 μg/m3. The results of assessing the substitution effect of mechanical ventilation system by sorptive building material showed that the replacement effect of the ventilation rate of 0.28 to 0.43 ACH was applied to both the ceiling and the wall, and the replacement effect increased as the load rate of sorptive building material increased. Prediction and evaluation of the effect of reducing heating energy consumption by replacing mechanical ventilation system of sorptive building material resulted in a 20.8% reduction in the gas consumption of boilers when both ceiling and wall were applied.
